New Meaning to Environmental Responsibility

Toyota's parent company, Toyota Industries Corporation, has imparted an outstanding corporate values towards environmental management within Toyota. Toyota's rich history of environmental protection whilst retaining economic viability cannot be matched by other organizations and unquestionably no other resource handling manufacturer can thus far rival Toyota. Environmental accountability is a fundamental feature of company decision making at Toyota and they are proud to be the first and only maker to provide UL-listed, EPA- and CARB-certified Compressed Natural Gas powered lift vehicles. Yet another reason they remain a leader within the industry.

Toyota first launched the 8-Series line of lift vehicles in 2006, again exhibiting its leadership and innovation in the industry. Featuring an exclusive emission system that eclipsed both Federal EPA emission standards, and California's more environmentally friendly emission standards. The end product is a lift truck that produces 70 percent less smog forming emissions than the existing Federal standards allow.

What's more in 2006, Toyota developed a relationship with the Arbor Day Foundation, furthering their responsibility to the environment. Greater than 57,000 trees have been planted in regional parks and national forests damaged by environmental causes such as fires, as a result of this partnership. 10,500 seedlings have also been circulated through Toyota Industrial Equipment's network of dealers to non-profit organizations and local consumers to help sustain communities all over the U.S.

Industry-Leading Safety

Toyota's lift vehicles offer better output, visibility, ergonomics and durability, and most notably, the industry's leading safety technology. The company's System of Active Stability, also referred to as "SAS", helps lessen the risk of mishaps and injuries, in addition to increasing productivity levels while minimizing the potential for product and equipment damage.

System Active Stability is able to sense factors that may lead to lateral unsteadiness and potential lateral overturn. When one of these factors have been sensed, the SAS will instantaneously engage the Swing Lock Cylinder to re-stabilize the rear axle. This changes the lift truck's stability footprint from triangular in shape to rectangular, offering a major increase in stability which substantially reduces the probability of an accident from a lateral overturn. The Active Mast Function Controller or the Active Control Rear Stabilizer also aids to prevent injuries or accidents while adding durability.

SAS was first launched to the market on the 7-Series internal combustion products in 1999 and subsequently catapulted Toyota into the industry leader for safety. Since then, SAS continues to be built-in to the majority of Toyota's internal combustion models. It is standard equipment on the new 8-Series. There are more than 100,000 SAS-equipped lift trucks in action, exceeding 450 million hours combined. The increased population of SAS-equipped trucks in the field, along with compulsory worker instruction, overturn fatalities across all models have decreased by 13.6% since 1999. Also, there has been an overall 35.5% fall in industry wide collisions, loss of control, falls and overturn from a lift truck for the same period.

Toyota's uncompromising standards continue far beyond the technology itself. The company believes in providing general Operator Safety Training services to help customers meet and exceed OSHA standard 1910.178. Training packages, video lessons and assorted materials, covering a wide scope of subjects-from personal safety, to OSHA regulations, to surface and cargo conditions, are offered through the supplier network.

Toyota's U.S. Commitment

Since the sale of its first lift vehicle in the U.S. to the construction of its 350,000th lift vehicle produced in 2009 at Toyota Industrial Equipment Manufacturing, TMHU has continued a solid presence in the U.S. This reality is demonstrated by the statistic that 99% of Toyota lift trucks sold in America today are manufactured in the United States.

Facilities include a National Customer Center, as well as manufacturing operations and supply centers for equipment and service components, with the total investment exceeding $113 million dollars.
